HAPPY NEW YEAR: DO IT NOW!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! It’s the start of a new year and we made it, yaaayyyyy!!! It’s exciting to begin this new year 2025 and look ahead with great enthusiasm. What are your plans for 2025 and who are you cutting off from your life? Lol. It’s normal to see posts on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram about being a changed person, taking no bull crap from anyone and cutting people of, yen yen yen.  Truth is, it’s good to want to evaluate your life and strategize on the path going forward and all that; but then, why wait for the 31st of December to make such decisions? You can make decisions like that anytime you feel they are necessary. You don’t need to cross your legs waiting for the clock to chime in 12.00 am on January 1st before you decide. January 1st is another day just like November 6th or March 14th. Do what you need to do to effect that positive change you desire in your life and DO IT NOW!

5 LIFE LESSONS FROM BIG BROTHER NAIJA SEASON 6

If you have been watching past editions of the Big Brother Naija show held in Lagos-Nigeria, you would agree with me that there are tons of life lessons to be learned from the show. If you’re not aware, the show is about a number of people living together in a house full of cameras, navigating through tasks and relationships and voted out by the audience until one person wins. This season started with 22 housemates and then in the first eviction 3 people were booted off ( Yerins, Niyi and Beatrice). In that same night, 4 new housemates (JMK, Kayvee, Michael and Queen) joined the initial cast of Whitemoney, Pere, Liquorose, Jackie B, Maria, Peace, Sammie, Saga, Nini, Arin, Princess, Boma, Cross, Jaypaul, Saskay, Angel, Emmanuel, Peace, Tega and Yousef.  So back to the topic: what have you learned so far from the show? Hmmm… 1. VIEWERS LIKE WHO THEY LIKE As it has proven year after year, when the show starts, viewers are drawn to particular housemates most times because of how they l...

WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN YOU'RE EXTREMELY ANGRY AT SOMEONE?

Anger is an intense emotional state involving a strong uncomfortable and non-cooperative response to a perceived provocation, hurt or threat. An angry person will often experience physical effects, such as increased heart rate, elevated blood pressure, and increased levels of adrenaline. Some view anger as a normal and natural human emotion, while some see it as a weakness to be angry.  People react differently when they are angry. Some don't voice it out but inside, they are a burning cauldron. Some people just go away and leave the scene of the crime until things have cooled down.  Others are more expressive and they yell. Some get physical, and destroy things when they're angry. Some yell out insults and obscenities. Others could go as far as causing physical harm and destruction.      So which category do you belong? Do you think anger is normal? Some people like to think that as a christian, "you shouldn't be getting angry". Lol, really? They really do...

9 REASONS WHY PEOPLE CHEAT

Cheating occurs in a committed partnership such as a marriage or a relationship, when one party strays beyond his or her marriage to seek solace ( in what ever form) from an outsider. Cheating comes in different forms including emotional, physical and so on. Emotional cheating happens when a party transfers and places the burden of filling their emotional needs to an outsider in the marriage or relationship. It could be through texts like WhatsApp messages. Instead of confiding in their partner, they are more comfortable with someone outside. These emotions could be anger, fear, love, sexual or others. Of course physical/sexual cheating occurs when one party physically meets up with an outsider to their marriage or relationship and does what they should be doing with their partner, with this outsider. It is mostly sexual but not in all cases. Once you are somewhere with someone outside your partner, doing what you should be doing with your partner with this outsider, AND YOUR PARTN...

HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT SCHOOL REUNIONS?

Hmmmm, so I was recently added to the WhatsApp group created for my former course mates form the university. I was pleasantly shocked because I had craved an avenue like that to reminisce about school life, to get to know even those I wasn’t close to then and to strengthen even further, the friendships with those I was still cool with even after all these years.  One of the first things I asked on the group was why I was just been added if the group had been existing since. I found out there were some obstacles in trying to carry everyone along and some people exited then. But I’ll say it now, this reunion has been one of the highlights of my 2020 so far.  So far, everyone has been lovely, lively and chatty, making jokes and generally having fun. But of course, not everyone is happy with meeting unread messages of almost 500. Phone batteries and especially data (which is expensive in Nigeria) are working overtime. A forum such as this also afford the opportunity for members to...

ONLINE TROLLING: EVER BEEN A VICTIM?

WHAT IS A TROLL? According to www.wikipedia.org, a  troll  is a class of being in Norse mythology and Scandinavian folklore. They were described as beings that dwell in isolated rocks, mountains, or caves, live together in small family units, and are rarely helpful to human beings. In Scandinavian folklore, trolls became beings in their own right, where they live far from human habitation and were  dangerous to human beings. Trolls are generally thought to be really ugly and slow-witted.  MODERN DAY INTERNET TROLLS Who is referred to as a troll in today’s world, especially where the internet and social media are involved? According to Cambridge dictionary, a TROLL is “someone who leaves an intentionally annoying or offensive message on the internet, in order to upset someone or to get attention or cause trouble”. This has been a sort of trend in Nigeria whereby people hide behind their keypads, type out nasty comments and messages to o...

IS IT OKAY TO STEAL ANOTHER WOMAN’S BABY’S PICTURE?

Another topic that has set social media on fire in Nigeria recently is the Halima Abubakar baby photo drama. She is a Nollywood actress and was recently involved in a baby photo scam where she used the baby photo of another woman in far away America, to announce the arrival of her own baby. A popular gossip blog on Instagram @gistloversblog  did some digging and found out the photo was stolen and people have been talking about it. Some people think it’s not right to take another woman’s baby photo to pose as yours, while others don’t think she did anything wrong after all, it was just the hand of the baby that she used. On which side are you? This is my personal opinion, and everyone is entitled to their opinion.  It is wrong to steal first of all (because that’s stealing right?), and then to steal ANOTHER WOMAN’S BABY PHOTO? That is wrong, I don’t even care how anybody wants to spin it. In her defense, she claimed her baby was born premature so she didn’t want to snap h...

WIVES VS SIDECHIC CHALLENGE

This challenge has been going on on social media for a while. In case you live under a rock (joking) and do not know about this challenge, it’s a challenge which started with married women putting up two photos of themselves side by side. In one photo tagged “wife”, she is dressed as a wife ( mostly conservatively). In the second photo tagged “sidechic”, she is dressed provocatively. A lot of married women have been participating in it passing the message that they can “slay” both as a wife and as a side chic, meaning they can be their husband’s wife and also his side thing. Cool story. Now here’s the thing. I have a problem with the way most wives are portrayed in this challenge: BORING, CONSERVATIVE, RESIGNED, OLD, SHABBY. Are we saying once a woman gets married, her sexual appeal disappears into thin air? She starts to dress in a boring way because she is perhaps trying to cover the weight she has added mostly due to childbirth? Are we trying to say women who look drab a...

CORONA VIRUS: HOW TO KEEP YOUR SPIRITS UP!

These are indeed trying times for everyone the world over. The Corona virus aka COVID19 is a pandemic that is sweeping through countries, wreaking havoc and leaving a lot of tears in its wake. Many countries are enforcing a total lockdown in order to trap its spread. The virus is already in Nigeria and because the government did not put measures on ground, the country was caught unawares and unprepared. Now everyone is scrambling to act right. Just like the WHO has advised, the following hygiene measures are still helpful. Each person has to take responsibility for himself; educate yourself and your family so that we can all play our parts in limiting the spread of the virus which has killed thousands all over the world. HOW TO STAY SAFE 1. Wash your hands often with soap and water 2. Stay home and only go out if it’s absolutely necessary.  3. Use a face mask, wear hand gloves and use a hand sanitizer. 4. Avoid touching surfaces, avoid touching your face and mouth. 5....

9 Mobile Point and Kill Ad

For the first time in a long time of watching and analyzing video ads, I am actually speechless. A lot of people have complained about this ad (especially on social media) and how they do not understand the concept behind it. Well, let’s talk about it, shall we? It starts with the main character played by Frank Donga wandering into a yacht where he proceeds to ask the server for “point and kill”, a local slang for barbecued fish. He assumes since the fish is in the water, he could just point at his choice and the “kitchen people” would prepare it for him. She looks at him like he’s crazy (and rightly so!). He finds his way to the captain and asks same of him. This time, he’s lucky as the captain gets up to “arrange” the “point and kill”. This crazy man seizes the opportunity of the captain being away to man the steering wheel of the yacht which he drives at a crazy speed, loses control and is seen screaming for the location of the brakes. END. REVIEW  The scene is beauti...

5 WAYS TO GET OVER A HEARTBREAK

Most of us have gone through one heartbreak or the other, and by heartbreak, I mean the romantic type hunay. I remember my first real heartbreak and looking back now, there are some things I would have done differently like not dwell too much on it because it would only prolong your healing process. Ok so, how do you get over a heartbreak. Valentine’s Day is here so this post would come in handy for those of you (tongue out) that would suffer a heartbreak on that blessed day; oh I pray for you sister and brother. Ok, let’s be serious now. How do you get over a romantic heartbreak; here are 5 ways to do that. 1. ACCEPTANCE  See, it’s a heartbreak right? Yes, that’s what it is. You should start singing,  “We are never ever, ever, ever getting back together” (I forget how many “evers” but be free to add as many as you feel like. Yeah, you broke up and are never ever ever getting back together with your  ex, right? Oh well, maybe you will someday, I mean, never sa...

AD REVIEW: COWBELL COFFEE

I always find it interesting how a video ad almost always has to have the colours of the product as the main colours in the video. A lot of brands do it and this was no exception. The mustard yellow and coffee brown of the cowbell pack were the main colours of the video. It was nice combination because some brands tend to overdo it. In the ad, the main character is seen in a shooting scene where he gets carried away drinking his cup of Cowbell Coffee. He says he couldn’t help himself because of how nice it tastes. The director who had earlier queried him is seen at the end, savoring the deliciousness of Cowbell Coffee.  Now let’s do justice. The main character looks good, spoke eloquently and his smile is warm and infectious. Those to me are bonus points. It’s a short ad and goes straight to the point, which is great. The video quality was clean and crisp and the choice of colours was classy. I really cannot point out any fault in this ad. It’s a great ad and the message was...

6 STRANGE FOOD COMBOS THAT WOULD SHOCK YOU

Food is a universal language and all over the world, people eat foods known to their culture. Overtime however, foods and food cultures have been exported into otherwise foreign territories and have ended up being loved by the newbies. An example would be the pizza that was foreign to Nigeria but is arguably now as common as akara. Some foods like bread and butter, beans and garri go hand in hand and sound ok and fine to most people. But there are some food combinations that you hear of and you go, “WTF?” or “eewww” or you might even become instantly horrified. I’m going to share 5 weird food combos that I’ve heard people say they eat. Bear in mind that what may sound far fetched to one person, may be totally relatable to another. Please don’t be shy to share your weird food combos. In the meantime, brace yourselves ladies...and guys. 1. NOODLES WITH BREAD This was popular among male students back then in school. I could never understand the relation. How do you take a...

WHAT DO STRANGERS MOSTLY ASSUME ABOUT YOU?

First of all, we are all guilty of this, let’s not even deny it. You meet someone and you immediately assume something about them. “Hmmm, she just looks like she would have a sugar daddy”. “No, he’s definitely a yahoo boy”. We just assume things about people we hardly even know.  I have had people tell me that when they first met me, they thought I was stuck up. Some say they thought I was mean and that I had this mean look. I know I’m working on smiling a lot but come on, MEAN?? Again some have said it was hard to approach me because they felt I would be cold and mean and they didn’t want to be embarrassed.  I have to tell you, it didn’t feel good hearing all that because they are not in any way a representation of who I really am. I’m a blunt person, I know (sometimes a tad too blunt for my own good), but I am not mean at all. But, what did I do about all those negative assumptions people had about me? I decided to work on myself; heck I’m still working on myself....

CARDI B AND THE NIGERIAN STRIPPERS

So Cardi B is in Nigeria right now for an event and the country has been agog. Her insta stories have been on fire with videos especially of her being at the strip club, spraying cash on the naked bodies of the strippers.  Now what do we make of this? A lot of people have been like, “yeah, girl!!! Cardiiiiii” . Others have been a bit unsure, because they are not comfortable with this girl on girl action. I saw a comment on @hollywoodunlocked where a guy said, “but if I do this to my homies, it’s gay”. Hmmmm. Would Nigerians be as accepting of the stripclub display if it were a fellow Nigerian, a musician, say Tiwa Savage? Don’t you think she would have been bashed and called all sorts if she did this? Does this once again go to prove that we accept “anything oyibo”?  As long as it’s a foreigner doing what we would normally, frown upon, it’s all good. And what does that make us? Hip Hip HYPOCRITES !!!
