IS IT OKAY TO STEAL ANOTHER WOMAN’S BABY’S PICTURE?

Another topic that has set social media on fire in Nigeria recently is the Halima Abubakar baby photo drama. She is a Nollywood actress and was recently involved in a baby photo scam where she used the baby photo of another woman in far away America, to announce the arrival of her own baby. A popular gossip blog on Instagram @gistloversblog  did some digging and found out the photo was stolen and people have been talking about it. Some people think it’s not right to take another woman’s baby photo to pose as yours, while others don’t think she did anything wrong after all, it was just the hand of the baby that she used. On which side are you? This is my personal opinion, and everyone is entitled to their opinion.  It is wrong to steal first of all (because that’s stealing right?), and then to steal ANOTHER WOMAN’S BABY PHOTO? That is wrong, I don’t even care how anybody wants to spin it. In her defense, she claimed her baby was born premature so she didn’t want to snap h...

WIVES VS SIDECHIC CHALLENGE

This challenge has been going on on social media for a while. In case you live under a rock (joking) and do not know about this challenge, it’s a challenge which started with married women putting up two photos of themselves side by side. In one photo tagged “wife”, she is dressed as a wife ( mostly conservatively). In the second photo tagged “sidechic”, she is dressed provocatively. A lot of married women have been participating in it passing the message that they can “slay” both as a wife and as a side chic, meaning they can be their husband’s wife and also his side thing. Cool story. Now here’s the thing. I have a problem with the way most wives are portrayed in this challenge: BORING, CONSERVATIVE, RESIGNED, OLD, SHABBY. Are we saying once a woman gets married, her sexual appeal disappears into thin air? She starts to dress in a boring way because she is perhaps trying to cover the weight she has added mostly due to childbirth? Are we trying to say women who look drab a...

WHAT DO STRANGERS MOSTLY ASSUME ABOUT YOU?

First of all, we are all guilty of this, let’s not even deny it. You meet someone and you immediately assume something about them. “Hmmm, she just looks like she would have a sugar daddy”. “No, he’s definitely a yahoo boy”. We just assume things about people we hardly even know.  I have had people tell me that when they first met me, they thought I was stuck up. Some say they thought I was mean and that I had this mean look. I know I’m working on smiling a lot but come on, MEAN?? Again some have said it was hard to approach me because they felt I would be cold and mean and they didn’t want to be embarrassed.  I have to tell you, it didn’t feel good hearing all that because they are not in any way a representation of who I really am. I’m a blunt person, I know (sometimes a tad too blunt for my own good), but I am not mean at all. But, what did I do about all those negative assumptions people had about me? I decided to work on myself; heck I’m still working on myself....
